Toxicity Profile for Crocin and crocetin (1994)
Abstract
Little published information is available on the toxicity of crocin and crocetin. In poorly reported studies in rodents treated orally there were indications of toxic effects on the liver. Crocin gave negative results in bacterial tests for mutagenicity (including the Ames test) and DNA damage; it did not produce chromosome damage in mammalian cells in culture.

What are Toxicity Profiles?
Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals.
They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
