Hexyl and 2-ethylbutyl acrylate (1996)

Abstract

The isomers n-hexyl (HA) and 2-ethylbutyl (EBA) acrylate were severe skin and mild eye irritants in rabbits. HA exhibited moderate to strong sensitizing potential in guinea-pigs. A small group of patients sensitized by 2-ethylhexyl acrylate cross-reacted to EBA. In acute studies, HA and EBA isomers were of low oral toxicity in rats and low dermal toxicity in rabbits. HA was not mutagenic in a bacterial Ames test. Neither isomer has been subjected to long-term studies.

Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals. They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
