Toxicity Profile for Phthalocyanine blue (2005)
Abstract
Phthalocyanine blue was non-irritating to the skin and eyes of rabbits. It induced skin sensitization in one individual. A low toxic potential was demonstrated in rats and mice following acute and repeated oral administration, although kidney damage was apparently seen in Russian studies involving repeated oral dosing to rats and mice. There was no indication of reproductive toxicity in limited oral studies in rats. In general, short-term screening tests for genotoxicity in mice, mammalian cells in culture and bacteria gave no evidence of activity, although an industrial grade of dye was mutagenic in an Ames bacterial test.
