Abstract

The Pigment Reds were not irritant to the skin and eyes of rabbits. They were of low acute oral toxicity in rodents. Pigment Red 48:1 was of low acute toxicity when inhaled by rats, causing slight tissue abnormalities in the respiratory tract, stomach and kidney. There was no evidence of mutagenicity in (generally limited) Ames bacterial tests.
