Toxicity Profile for Glycidyl methacrylate (1988)
Abstract
Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was a skin and eye irritant in rabbits. In humans, GMA was a skin sensitizer and may cause skin blisters. When given orally to rats and mice, acute toxicity was moderate and effects in the central nervous system were seen. Acute dermal toxicity in rabbits was moderate. GMA was highly toxic when given repeatedly to rats by stomach tube and there was some indication of liver effects. A limited oral study in rats gave no evidence of carcinogenicity. GMA was mutagenic in an Ames bacterial assay and may have damaged the bone marrow chromosomes of rats following intraperitoneal injection.
