Diethyl ketone (1997)

Abstract

Diethyl ketone was irritating to the human eye and respiratory tract and in rabbits caused slight skin irritation and severe eye damage. A volunteer study using a dilute solution provided no evidence of a sensitization potential. Low acute oral and dermal toxicity was demonstrated in laboratory animals. There were no neurotoxic effects in rats given repeated oral doses. A limited injection study in mice gave some suggestion of an embryotoxic action. Genotoxic activity has been detected in yeast cells.

Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals. They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
