Toxicity Profile for Methyl para-toluene sulphonate (1999)
Abstract
Methyl para-toluene sulphonate (MTS) has caused irritation and blistering of the skin, and skin sensitization in humans. It was reportedly an eye irritant in rabbits. Limited data suggest a moderate acute toxicity to rats by oral and subcutaneous routes. In rats, no evidence of carcinogenicity was seen in an inadequate oral study but other limited studies where MTS was given subcutaneously provided some evidence of carcinogenic potential. MTS caused mutations in fruit flies.
