Toxicity Profile for Pyrrolidine (1989)
Abstract
Pyrrolidine vapour caused irritation to the skin, eyes, nose and lungs of rats. It was of moderate acute oral toxicity in rats and mice with effects on the stomach, blood vessels, gastro-intestinal tract and liver of rats. Acute inhalation in mice was moderately toxic and may have had effects on the liver and kidneys in rats. No conclusive evidence of carcinogenicity was seen in limited studies involving repeated oral administration to mice and rats. Effects on the central nervous system, urine production, blood and testes were seen in rats exposed repeatedly by inhalation. Pyrrolidine was not mutagenic in Ames bacterial tests.
