Toxicity Profile for Benzoin (1989)
Abstract
Benzoin was of low acute oral toxicity to rats and mice, although high doses caused effects on the central nervous system, kidneys and liver. Studies involving repeated oral administration also caused tissue changes in the adrenal glands of rats, and lymph node and spleen enlargement in mice. Long-term feeding studies gave no conclusive indication of carcinogenicity in rats and mice. Benzoin has given inconsistent results in a wide range of tests for genotoxicity.
