Toxicity Profile for alpha-Methylcinnamaldehyde (1998)
Abstract
Neat alpha-methylcinnamaldehyde was not a skin irritant in rabbits. A volunteer study generated no evidence of skin sensitizing potential, although alpha-methylcinnamaldehyde was a potent sensitizer in a guinea-pig study involving exposure dermally and by injection. The acute oral and dermal toxicity was low in laboratory animals. Chromosome damage was not observed in mice treated by injection and no mutagenic activity was detected in the fruit fly or in most of the Ames bacterial tests undertaken.
