Toxicity Profile for Gallic acid (1989)
Abstract
Gallic acid was of low acute oral toxicity in rabbits. Repeated oral exposure induced liver, spleen, lung, stomach and kidney damage in rabbits and tissue changes in the liver of rats and chicks. Chromosomal damage has been seen in the bone marrow cells of mice treated by injection and in mammalian cells in culture. There was some evidence of mutagenic activity in yeast and in an Ames bacterial assay.
