Toxicity Profile for Chlorobutanol (1989)
Abstract
In man, chlorobutanol has caused skin reactions suggestive of a sensitization response following exposure by several routes, including local application and injection. Ingestion has resulted in central nervous system effects and intravenous administration decreased arterial blood pressure. Chlorobutanol was mildly irritating to the skin and eyes of rabbits. Repeated oral administration to rats caused liver effects, including enlargement, increased urinary ascorbic acid excretion and changed blood biochemical parameters. Chlorobutanol was mutagenic in an Ames bacterial test, but did not cause chromosomal damage in mice treated by injection or induce mutations in fruit flies.
