Toxicity Profile for 1,2-Dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline (monomer and polymer) (1989)

Abstract

In man, one case of skin sensitization to 1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline resin has been reported. In laboratory animals, the dihydrotrimethylquinoline produced irritation of the skin, eye and respiratory tract. It was of low to moderate acute oral toxicity in rodents but repeated oral administration was associated with tumours in the lymphatic system and bile duct, liver damage, central nervous system effects and anaemia. Lung, liver and brain damage was seen in a short term inhalation study in rats. Applications to the skin caused liver damage in rats. Neither the monomer nor the polymer gave evidence of mutagenicity in Ames bacterial tests,

What are Toxicity Profiles?

Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals. They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
