Toxicity Profile for 1-Dodecanol (1990)

Abstract

1-Dodecanol produced skin irritation in humans, mice and rabbits, and local reactions attributed to a sensitization response have been reported in some patients. It was of low acute oral toxicity in laboratory animals, the principal target organs in rats apparently being the lung and liver. Lung damage has been induced in rats inhaling an aerosol of 1-dodecanol. Skin-painting studies in mice indicated that 1-dodecanol may slightly increase the activity of a known carcinogen. No evidence of mutagenicity was reported in limited studies in bacteria (including an Ames test).

What are Toxicity Profiles?

Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals. They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
