Toxicity Profile for Polysorbate 40 (1990)
Abstract
Polysorbate was essentially non-irritant to the eyes and skin of volunteers and rabbits. It has apparently induced only a few cases of skin sensitization in man. In rats, it was of low acute oral toxicity and studies involving repeated oral administration identified no sites for toxic attack. Benign skin tumours developed in mice treated dermally and it enhanced the action of a known skin carcinogen.

What are Toxicity Profiles?
Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals.
They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
