Toxicity Profile for Pigment Violet 23 (1994)

Abstract

Pigment Violet 23 was irritant to the eyes but not to the skin of rabbits. Based on cytotoxicity tests using mouse cells in culture, Pigment Violet 23 has been passed for use as a colourant in contact lenses. Low acute toxicity by the oral and dermal routes was indicated in rodents. Limited studies involving repeated oral administration to rats were without toxic effect.
