Toxicity Profile for Pigment Red 112 (1997)
Abstract
Pigment Red 112, in suspension, was non-irritant to the skin and eyes of laboratory animals and did not induce skin sensitization in guinea pigs. It was of low acute oral toxicity in rodents. No target organs were identified in a study involving repeated oral administration to rats. A technical grade of the pigment gave some evidence of mutagenicity in Ames bacterial assays and Chinese hamster cell tests, but did not induce chromosome aberrations in human cells treated in culture. The purified pigment was not an Ames test mutagen.
