Toxicity Profile for Hydroxycitric acid and its trisodium salt (2000)
Abstract
Hydroxycitric acid has been used in weight-reducing formulations consumed on a regular basis by volunteers, with no obvious adverse consequences. Trisodium hydroxycitrate affected fat metabolism and reduced body weight gain in rats treated orally. The hydroxycitrate moiety evidently has provoked a skin sensitization reaction in one individual.
