Toxicity Profile for Methyl red (1993)
Abstract
Methyl red was mutagenic in the bacterial Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium following metabolic activation. Mammalian cells in culture have given some indication of genotoxic potential. Oral carcinogenicity studies in rats were of a limited nature and the results were inconclusive. Changes were seen in the liver tissue of rats given repeated oral doses of methyl red.

What are Toxicity Profiles?
Toxicity Profiles are comprehensive, yet concise, monographs on the hazard potential of individual chemicals.
They are written by scientists specially trained in the evaluation of toxicity data and are prepared principally from primary information sources.
