Toxicity Profile for Musk ambrette (1990)
Abstract
Musk ambrette was an irritant to rabbit skin. Sensitization and photosensitization have been well documented in man. In acute studies, the dermal toxicity in rabbits was low, whilst the oral data in rats were contradictory. Repeated oral or dermal exposure damaged the nervous system and testes of rats. Musk ambrette has exhibited mutagenic activity in bacterial Ames tests and in the fruit fly. No chromosomal damage was seen in mice treated orally or by injection.
