2,5-Hexanediol was not apparently a skin irritant in rabbits, but caused severe eye injury. It was of low acute oral and dermal toxicity in laboratory animals. Oral, dermal and injection exposure of rats, mice and hens caused nervous tissue damage, leading to muscular incoordination and paralysis. Repeated oral administration in rodents caused wasting of the thymus and testes, tissue changes in the adrenals, kidneys, lymph nodes and spleen, and impairment of immune function.
