There is limited evidence that 4,4′-oxybis(benzenesulphonyl hydrazide) irritated the skin and eyes of laboratory animals. A moderate to low acute oral toxicity was seen in rats and mice; effects on the nervous system were observed. Following repeated oral exposure, liver, kidney and adrenal effects were seen in limited studies in rats. Mutagenic activity was demonstrated in bacterial assays, including an Ames test, and DNA damage was induced in cultures of rat and mouse cells. No evidence of genotoxic potential was found in mice treated by intraperitoneal administration.
