alpha-Phellandrene caused moderate irritation to the skin of rabbits. There was some evidence in man of skin sensitization to alpha-phelllandrene, possibly as a result of the presence of auto-oxidation products or impurities. In acute studies, alpha-phelllandrene was of low toxicity by the oral route in rats and by the dermal route in rabbits. Repeated applications to the skin of mice slightly enhanced the activity of a known skin carcinogen.
