Erucamide was a slight skin irritant in rabbits. Short-term oral administration to rats did not identify any particular site of toxic action, but no microscopic examination of the tissues was conducted. Erucamide is apparently hydrolysed to erucic acid, which can produce heart damage on feeding to laboratory animals.
