Undiluted ethyl n-butyl ketone was irritating to the skin and eye of rabbits. Solutions gave no evidence of sensitizing potential in either a volunteer study or a guinea-pig investigation. The acute toxicity in laboratory animals was low by the oral and dermal routes. Inhalation has caused behavioural effects in rats. Repeated exposure by stomach tube induced neurotoxicity in rats, the effect being enhanced by co-exposure to methyl ethyl ketone.
