Ethyl phenylglycidate (EPG) was not an irritant to the skin of rabbits. No skin irritation or sensitization was induced in volunteers treated with a dilute solution. Acute toxicity was low in rats treated orally and in rabbits treated dermally. EPG was mutagenic to bacteria in the Ames test and gave positive results in a range of genotoxicity screening assays in mammalian cells in culture. Chromosome damage was not seen in the bone marrow cells of mice treated by injection. No carcinogenicity data have been identified.
