Lauric diethanolamide has caused sensitization reactions in man. Skin and eye irritation have been induced in laboratory animals. It was of low acute oral and dermal toxicity in rodents. Oral administration caused liver, kidney and blood effects in rats. No effects on reproduction were seen in rats and rabbits treated orally or in rats given dermal applications. Some evidence of mutagenicity occurred in a bacterial assay (Ames test) but no genotoxic effects were induced in mammalian cells in culture.
