Oleamide produced mild skin irritation and minimal eye irritation when tested on rabbits at low concentrations. One woman developed a rash following skin contact. The acute oral toxicity in rats was low. In a limited Ames bacterial assay there was no evidence of mutagenic activity. Hydrolysis to oleic acid was demonstrated using simulated intestinal fluid.
