SCCS has released a guidance document providing advice on the physicochemical characterisation, exposure assessment, and human health risk assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetics. In view of the specific properties, behaviour and effects of nanomaterials, the need for detailed characterisation and identification of the nanomaterial of interest is emphasised.

Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety. Guidance on the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetics. SCCS adopted this opinion at its 15th plenary meeting of 26-27 June 2012.
