The International Agency for Research on Cancer has recently finalised and published Volume 113 of its Monographs on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans, which covers two organochlorine insecticides (lindane and DDT) and a chlorophenoxy herbicide (2,4-D). Lindane was classified as “carcinogenic to humans” (Group 1), DDT (or 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane) as “probably carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2A) and 2,4-D (or 2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic acid) as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B).
