…BPC opinions on a range of biocidal substances

Opinions adopted by the BPC in December 2016 concern the approval (or non-approval) of:

  • active chlorine from chlorine for product types (PTs) 2 (disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals) and 5 (drinking water disinfectants)
  • active chlorine from sodium hypochlorite for PTs 1 (human hygiene disinfectants), 2, 3 (veterinary hygiene disinfectants), 4 (food and feed area disinfectants) and 5
  • calcium hypochlorite for PTs 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • 2-methyl-1,2-benzoisothiazolin-3-one for PT 13 (working or cutting fluid preservatives)
  • methylisothiazolinone for PT 11 (preservatives for liquid-cooling and processing systems)
  • 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one for PT 8 (wood preservatives)
  • peracetic acid from tetra-acetylethylenediamine and sodium percarbonate for product types (PTs) 2, 3 and 4

ECHA has updated its guidance document on the efficacy assessment and evaluation of biocides, and sent it for Competent Authority consultation.
