In a draft screening assessment, it was concluded that chlorhexidine along with its diacetate, dihydrochloride and digluconate salts “are not entering the environment in a quantity or concentration or under conditions that constitute or may constitute a danger in Canada to human life or health”. However, chlorhexidine is expected to be persistent, and the chemical and its salts “have or may have an immediate or long-term harmful effect on the environment or its biological diversity”.

Another screening assessment covers sodium and hydrogen sulphides, and sodium bisulphide. It was concluded that none of these compounds are entering the environment in a quantity, concentration or under conditions that constitute or may constitute a danger to human health or the environment.
