ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) has concluded that, under the EU CLP regulation, titanium dioxide meets the criteria to be classified as a substance suspected of causing cancer (category 2) by the inhalation route. A category 1B classification (”may cause cancer”) had been originally proposed by the dossier submitter. The RAC opinion will be formally adopted later in the year.
