2-Ethylhexyl methacrylate has evidently caused skin and eye irritation in rabbits. Patients with contact dermatitis attributable to acrylate exposure did not respond to 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate in covered patch tests, although sensitization has been induced in guinea pigs given intradermal injection and skin applications. 2-Ethylhexyl methacrylate was of low acute toxicity in rats treated orally and in guinea pigs treated dermally. Repeated inhalation by rats caused tissue changes in the lungs. The methacrylate has not been tested for carcinogenicity or genotoxicity.
