Allyl caprylate was of moderate acute oral toxicity in the rat and of moderate to low acute dermal toxicity in the rabbit. A dilute solution did not irritate the skin or induce skin sensitization in volunteers, but the neat material was moderately irritant to rabbit skin. Many allyl esters are hydrolysed to allyl alcohol, a known liver toxin.
