Allylacetic acid was of moderate acute oral toxicity in rodents and induced central nervous system effects. Single or repeated injections of the acid or its salt produced blood and liver changes (often reflecting alterations in fat metabolism), and central nervous system effects in rats and mice. There was no chromosomal damage in mice treated by intraperitoneal injection and no evidence of mutagenicity was obtained in an Ames bacterial assay.
