alpha-Amylcinnamyl alcohol was of low acute toxicity in rats treated orally and in rabbits treated dermally. It was not a skin irritant in rabbits, but in humans it has caused sensitization and the skin complaint urticaria. The alcohol did not produce chromosomal damage when injected into mice and no evidence of mutagenicity was seen in an Ames bacterial test or in the fruit fly.
