Dicumyl peroxide caused slight skin irritation in humans and eye irritation in rabbits. Effects on the nose lining were seen in humans occupationally exposed to dicumyl peroxide. A low acute oral toxicity was recorded in rats and mice. Blood effects have been reported in Soviet studies involving repeated oral dosing of rats. Repeated application to mouse skin provided evidence of weak tumour-promoting ability. Dicumyl peroxide was not mutagenic in Ames bacterial tests but apparently induced mutations in another bacterial study.
