Diethylene glycol mono-n-butyl acetate (DGBEA) irritated the skin and eyes of rabbits, and was of low acute oral and dermal toxicity in laboratory animals. Severe kidney damage occurred in a child following repeated dermal application of an insect repellent containing 50% DGBEA. Repeated skin application of DGBEA produced kidney damage and destruction of red blood cells in rabbits.
