Glycofurol did not cause irritation when applied as a dilute solution to the skin of mice. However, irritant reactions were seen following its injection into rabbits and rats. It was of low acute toxicity in mice when administered by the oral, intravenous or intraperitoneal routes. Liver enzyme activity was affected in mice treated orally and in rats treated intraperitoneally. Central nervous system toxicity occurred in mice given glycofurol by intravenous injection.
