Trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) was an irritant to the skin and eye of rabbits, and has given some evidence of sensitizing potential in guinea-pigs. Skin reactions to TMPTMA have also been seen in persons initially sensitized to methacrylate esters. It was of low acute toxicity by the oral and dermal route in laboratory animals. A limited study in mice treated by repeated skin application revealed no evidence of carcinogenicity. Screening assays in cultures of mammalian cells have revealed some mutagenic potential.
