EFSA has listed 143 substances from the Carcinogenic Potency Database (of 1547 chemicals) which are of particular concern (with a lifetime cancer risk of greater than 1 in a million) even if ingested at doses at or below the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC) limit value of 0.0025 µg/kg bw for substances with structural alerts for genotoxicity. The list includes members of the so-called “cohort of concern” (e.g. compounds with aflatoxin-like, N-nitroso- and azoxy‑moieties, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBS), benzidines and dioxin).
