Newly published IARC monographs fully cover the agency’s June 2013 meeting discussing the carcinogenic risks of a range of drugs and herbal products (volume 108). The overall evaluations are summarised as follows:

“Probably carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2A):

  • pioglitazone

“Possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B):

  • Aloe vera
  • digoxin
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • goldenseal
  • hydrochlorothiazide
  • kava
  • pentosan polysulfate sodium
  • primidone
  • pulegone
  • sulfasalazine
  • triamterene

 

 

“Not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans” (Group 3):

  • methylene blue
  • rosiglitazone
