The Scientific Steering Committee of the VKM has drawn up a report describing “the most relevant theoretical principles” for various types of combined toxic effects from multiple chemical exposures. The different schemes that have been developed (e.g. by the UK Committee on Toxicity and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration) are outlined. In most cases they are considered “not suitable for practical use in the Scientific Panels of the VKM”. A flow chart has been developed and will be tested as a tool for assessing combined effects of multiple exposures.
