Hazard and risk assessment of oral healthcare products
Client
A major multinational provider of oral healthcare products.
Background
Bibra was asked to assess the health risks to consumers associated with exposures to three oral healthcare products, each using a different emulsifier.
Project Goals
Obtain and review the available toxicological data on relevant chemicals, and conduct risk assessments for consumer health.
Approach
Bibra conducted literature searches utilising the in-house TRACE database, TOXNET, PubMed and RTECS, and reviewed information on the relevant chemical ingredients. Where possible, Expert Group evaluations were consulted as key sources of data, and the chemicals were assessed with a focus on oral and local exposure. Bibra estimated relevant worst-case intakes and provided a conclusion on the likely consumer health risks.
Project Outcome
Having considered the available toxicity information on the endpoints of interest, bibra provided our client with the appropriate toxicity summaries and classification and labelling proposals, in support of their biocidal product registrations, among the first under the new regulation.
