Hazard assessment of a cosmetic ingredient
Client
A chemical supplier.
Background
Bibra scientists were asked to assess the health hazards associated with a polymer intended to be used in cosmetic products.
Project goals
To identify and review the available toxicological data to produce a report relevant to the compound’s possible effects on human health. Information pertinent to dermal and oral exposure was considered to be of particular use, given its likely application in cosmetics.
Approach
Following literature searches (of TRACE and of external data sources), bibra selected and described studies on both the cosmetic ingredient and on its structurally-related read-across compounds. All relevant endpoints and routes of exposure were considered.
Project outcome
Bibra efficiently provided the client with a comprehensive hazard assessment on the cosmetic ingredient.
