On 1 November 2009, Safe Work Australia began operating as an independent statutory agency with primary responsibility for improving occupational health and safety. Springing immediately into action, the agency has issued a report that reviews the toxicology of a range of engineered nanomaterials, with emphasis on the implications for the protection of health at the workplace. The report updates a previous review by the Australian Safety and Compensation Council, and is based on scientific literature published from 2006 to 2008, together with some important publications from the first half of 2009.
