SCCS has updated its 2012 guidance on the safety assessment of nanomaterials in cosmetics, which is intended for use in conjunction with its general guidance for the testing of cosmetic ingredients and their safety evaluation (10th revision, 2018). The 2019 update reflects the current state of knowledge and latest information requirements. As is to be expected for cosmetics, the emphasis is on non-animal methodologies, with alternative methods and new approach methodologies (NAMs) summarised in a separate annex.
